Nano brows are a cosmetic tattoo technique that uses a tattoo machine to create soft, natural-looking hair strokes. They’re gentler on the skin than a manual technique, work for all skin types, ages, and brow types, and are especially helpful for sparse or thinning brows. Most clients need 2 sessions, and results typically last 1-3 years before a refresh.
Imagine waking up with natural-looking brows and skipping the pencil, powder, and gel. That’s what many of our clients love most about nano brows, and it’s the heart of our approach at Fancy Faces in Williamsburg, Brooklyn: enhanced, never overdone.
What are nano brows?
Nano brows, sometimes called nanoblading or machine hair strokes, are a cosmetic tattoo technique that uses a tattoo machine to create fine, hair-like strokes that blend with your natural brows. Unlike microblading, which is done with a manual tool, nano brows use a machine, which gives your artist more control.

What are the benefits of nano brows?
Natural, hair-like results. Soft strokes designed to blend into your existing brows.
Gentler on the skin. The machine technique is gentler than a manual tool.
Works for all skin types, ages, and brow types. If you have oily skin, larger pores, or coarse brow hair, we may also suggest powder brows, a softer, penciled-in look with longer-lasting results.
Great for sparse or thinning brows. Nano brows can create fullness for clients with little to no brow hair.
A simpler routine. Fewer minutes with a brow pencil means more time for everything else.
Customized to you. We map each brow shape to your face and choose pigment to suit you.
Are nano brows right for you?
This service takes trust and patience, so it’s better to be 100% sure. Nano brows can be a great fit if you have sparse, uneven, or over-tweezed brows, or if you’re tired of drawing them in every day.
You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or nursing, undergoing chemotherapy, allergic to lidocaine or benzocaine, or using blood thinners. If you have diabetes, you’ll need a doctor’s approval, and you must wait at least a year after Accutane. If you have scar tissue, discoloration, or an older brow tattoo, reach out before booking. Our FAQ page has the full list.
What to expect at your appointment
Consultation and brow design. We discuss your goals, plan your brow shape, and go over pigment, aftercare, and what to expect before any tattooing begins. You’re included in every decision.
Mapping and pigment matching. We shape your brows to your face and choose a pigment that suits your natural hair color and skin tone.
Application. We use numbing cream to keep you comfortable. Most clients find it manageable, and some even get sleepy. The whole process takes up to 3 hours.
Touch-up. Nano brows take 2 sessions about 4-6 weeks apart. Your touch-up is included in your service price, and it lets us check how your skin healed and make adjustments.
Healing and aftercare
Plan for about 10-12 days of healing with no working out or heavy sweating, and no direct sun or swimming for 14 days. If you’re booking around an event or a vacation, book about 2.5 months ahead so both sessions fit comfortably. See our aftercare page for full instructions.
How long do nano brows last?
Results typically last 1-3 years before it’s time for a refresh. Fading is gradual, and a soft residual color usually remains. How long yours lasts depends on your lifestyle, skin health, skincare routine, age, and the techniques and pigments used. Protecting your brows from the sun and following your aftercare will help them last.
